How to Use This Template
This free starter gives your book a title page, sample front matter, five demonstration chapters, linked contents, a references section, and sample back matter. Keep the pages that serve your book and replace the sample writing with your own.
- Make it yours. Replace bracketed placeholders such as [Your Book Title] and [Author Name].
- Choose your opening pages. Dedication, epigraph, foreword, preface, and acknowledgments are optional. Remove any you do not need.
- Choose your closing sections. Back matter offers space for an afterword, appendix, endnotes, further reading, linked index, author information, other works, contact details, credits, and a colophon. Each sample explains its purpose. Keep only the sections that serve your book.
- Write your chapters. Replace the demonstration chapters, rename their headings, and add sections as your manuscript develops.
- Keep navigation in step. When adding, removing, or renaming a section, update the Contents, reading order, and previous/next links.
- Complete publication details. Update the book metadata, copyright wording, credits, and contact information. Give a new book its own publication identifier.
- Review before sharing. Remove template notes, check links, verify quotations and credits, and read the EPUB in your intended reading apps at different text sizes.
EPUB text flows to fit the reader’s screen and settings. Each front matter section begins in a separate document; its displayed page count depends on the reading app and font size.
This guide is for the author. Remove it from the finished book unless it is useful to your readers.
